The consolidated bill proposing changes to the term of office of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials has officially reached Malacañang for presidential action.

Enrolled copies of Senate Bill No. 2816 and House Bill No. 11287 were transmitted to the Office of the President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on July 15, 2025, for his signature.

The bill seeks to standardize and possibly extend the term of office of Barangay and SK officials, a reform long called for to ensure better continuity, planning, and governance at the grassroots level. Once signed into law, this legislation will directly impact election scheduling, succession, and the implementation timeline of programs in the barangays and youth councils.

Youth leaders and barangay officials across the country are closely watching the President’s next move. If enacted, the law will become a game-changer in local governance, especially for young leaders under the Sangguniang Kabataan.

The President has 30 days to act on the measure. If no action is taken within that period, it will lapse into law.

Stay tuned as Model SK brings you further updates on the bill’s status and its implications for the youth and barangay leadership.
